This is a single family residence built on Bailey Island south of Charleston South Carolina. Located on a remote island in the Edisto Basin overlooking the marsh and a small dock. The building sites on Bailey Island were developed to maintain privacy as well as preserve the environment through protective easements. I worked on this project while working for VDL Associates LLC. The client requested a low country design which Virginia Lane was pleased to provide. My role as lead Architect was to refine the design and develop the details of how the project went together. The expressed structural accents inside the house were my major contribution to the look of this house.
The exterior is wood, brick and cement board siding. A theme was developed using battered wooden columns which is repeated in the battered chimney form of the master bedroom chimney. An adjacent garage is connected to the main house through the roof lines.
